Saint Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373), like Saint Catherine of Siena (1347-1380), is one of the four female Doctors of the Church, and one of the six Patron Saints of Europe. Her Revelations describe the Crucifiction in detail, and her 15 prayers to atone for the wounds of JESUS (5480 wounds to the Body of Christ)– if recited faithfully for one year (to atone for those wounds) –  promise incredible rewards for those who persevere.  Pope Pius IX approved the devotion.

And the editor also recalls what JESUS said upon delivering the Keys of the Holy Church to Saint Peter: "Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matthew 18:18)

Therefore, in the editor's view, one ought to recite the prayers with the belief that the promises made will be promises kept.
